Six Months Living on Wells $treet!

Happy New Year!

I’m so grateful to regular readers of Wells $treet, those of you who’ve taken time to peruse my bizarre business column born only six months ago. Wells $treet has gone from rolling over to being able to sit up and crawl. Soon it’ll be walking.

Baby steps.

I have a growing base of subscribers and more content visits than I ever expected at this point. Your support and feedback have brought me much joy. It’s encouraged me to embrace a fun and personal style of storytelling that never strays from the facts. I’ve even been bold enough — buttressed by alcohol — to make a few companion videos for Dumb and Dumber:

There is more financial wackiness and stupidity in store for the start of 2022: a weird look at why used car prices are so high; Silicon Valley investments aimed at reducing cow farts; a list of New Year’s Resolutions for Elon Musk (“Avoid colliding with Chinese astronauts”).

I do have a favor to ask. To make Wells $treet even better and more engaging, if you could shoot me a short comment below or email a note to jane@janewells.com and tell me which stories resonate with you, and which do not. What would you like to see more of?

One fascinating thing I’ve learned is that some stories do better with subscribers, and some do better with the general public. Both are valuable audiences, but subscribers come first.

Also, Facebook — I mean, Meta (or is it Meta Platforms?) — eventually wants me to create extra content behind a paywall. Wells $treet will continue to be free, but I’ve been spitballing ideas about what might be worth paying a couple bucks for. One idea I have is to create a companion podcast to go with some articles, bringing the stories alive in a more meaningful way.

In the meantime, as we await our inevitable infection from Omicron, as we reschedule travel because our flights have been canceled, as we hunker down through a winter of weird weather, and as we (me) watch our crypto investments tank, I hope we take a moment to focus on all that’s right and good in the world — Dolly Parton.
