Jane, I was a 14 year old JETS fan in 1968. I lived in New Jersey near New York City.
I was watching the game and when Heidi came on, I ran to my room and listened to the disastrous rest of the game on the Jets' radio broadcast. The Jets DID go on to win Super Bowl 3 at the end of the season!!!
Boy Jane, you really scraped the bottom of the barrel to find good things to say in Smart and Smarter. It shows you gave up when you came up with the Mt. Baldy Eagles. 😆 🤣 😂
Jane, excellent reporting as usual. Suggestions for next D&D...fly to Japan, you already know the route, check in with pharmacies to see about the run on Paxil, Lexapro and Zoloft now that Shohei is off the market. I'm watching the bird camera, if you get to Lake Tahoe by tomorrow, hurry, sit outside in the snow for one hour, shake it off, best the eagle. On corporate ridiculousness, a music DJ on a CBS owned radio in LA made a stupid Asain slur on air. Result, CBS NY hired a company for "sensitivity training" and all of us at two news only stations had to sit thru two hours of how not to say that guy's mistake. The company hired to sensitize us made 40 grand. Excellent, Smithers.
Not *perpetually* angry (just some of the time), but I was definitely one of the people who, um, highlighted (?) Mr. Pilnick's oh-so-dumb CNBC remarks. Because, come *on*. Wendy's running backwards so fast it's going to have a tragic accident, on the dynamic pricing thing, has been amusing, though.
We Giants fans are studiously ignoring Mr. Ohtani. Studiously.
This is one of your best newsletters yet! You just get better and better. Still miss Strange Success, though. I can hear the newsletter in your voice because I know your voice, but the podcast was *in* your voice, and so wonderful because of it! Happy March!
Thank you, Kathy. I used to have so much fun telling those Strange Success stories. You’re right, hearing the story unfold is superior in many ways to reading about it. (It’s also a lot of work, and CNBC didn’t think it could make much money on it… sigh… )
well, having worked at too many companies - a bunch that disappeared - i know there are lots and lots to select from for a dumb-dumber-dumbest and more article. Wendy's made my day however. they have been circling the drain for years now and perhaps this latest stunt will insure they reach the drain a bit sooner?
yeah Phillip. when they initially came on the market in my college days they had a great product. commercials were unqiue with "Hot and Juicy Wendy's" as their tag line. i think every guy and several lesbians in college had to try a "Wendy's" at least 3 times. but give them time the CEOs pull their cash, the product turns cheap-cheap-cheap and they sure ain't hot and juicy any more!
Yes, things are still going poorly on Maui. There was a big stink, this past week, about the amount that the state is covering to keep people in Hotels, apparently the Fed program ended?! Getting things done quickly here is not easy!!
Wow, a stack of those improved tacos from the Fontainebleu, and a bowl of sugary cereal - a balanced meal in college days. Now, what beer to go with the two...
Thanks, once again, Jane Wells, for your highly entertaining view of the World.
FUNNY!
(Hank Kiley would have strongly approved)

I was 11 in 1968, but I remember my dad, who rarely cursed, cursing when they dropped the game.
You're not alone in that! My father also was very upset when the game suddenly was replaced by a movie.
OMG! Where do I start? One of your best months yet, Jane!

Heidi, Heidi, heidiHWAAHHAAHHAAA!!! T
What an amazing NFL gem that I had missed! Bravo Jane and sincere thanks.
aloha friday 🌸🤙🏽

I’m surprised the company only charged $40k. We’re in the wrong business.

Well, if I've learned anything in this life, it is this: Nachos are not an appetizer.
This made me laugh.
My work here is done...:)

Good riddance to Wendy's

Everything there is extreme. Extremely beautiful, extremely bureaucratic.
When was the last time you enjoyed a glass of Tang?
1970

In college, tacos for breakfast and cereal for dinner actually happened. With beer washing down both.
I am reading Elon Musk on your recommendation. Thank you. Have a great weekend!🌹
Such a great book. So many great non-fiction business-related books came out in 2023.
TANG!! 🍊😁😎
If you know, you know.
