If you can see the solar eclipse “in totality,” meaning the moon completely blocks out the sun, you should make the effort, assuming cloud cover doesn’t eclipse the eclipse. When the event occurs Monday, you’ll be able to see at least a partial eclipse in all 48 contiguous states. Totality will span 13 states over a three-hour period, from Texas to Maine, beginning around 1:25pCT.
Jane, you are an asset to CNBC as the roving reporter for the West Coast. Always enjoy your reports on various subjects and they are always informative. Sounds like this eclipse is East of the Mississippi so it's the East Coast roving reporters turn.
I was tired before I started 5 days of dog shows getting up in total darkness all to run around a ring with a dog on a shoestring only going to the left for a 50 cent ribbon! Ok, so I figured, hey, I know what total darkness is like so why should I go to Austin the next morning since, as I mentioned, I know what total darkness is like.. And it seems I sort of live in the path of totality. You answered my question. Thanks, Jane. And for what it's worth, I was howling with that tent thing knowing the insider truth. You're the BEST!! Now where in the hey can I get eclipse glasses at this point?
As a astronomy fan myself I really appreciate this particular article. I have since moved to Dublin Ireland and not able to make it back and pay 1,500 bucks for a 1 star Airbnb to see the event but your 2017 video NEARLY got me back.
awesome! i'm missing this full eclipse. maybe i'll make another before i die. perhaps a combined trip with a cruise ship???? i do want to see the northern lights "for real". so far i've only seen them from a distance that only yields that distant green-glow. maybe i can find a two-fer type cruise????? eclipse plus northern lights?
Jane, I remember when this aired on CNBC. I work on a trading desk, where multiple TVs tuned into CNBC or Bloomberg TV is the norm, and I distinctly recall how moved you were upon experiencing this moment. It gave me chills then and rewatching your first clip, did so again 7 yrs later. Thank you, have a fun on Monday and I am already planning for 2044. I’ll be retired by then so I plan to travel so I can experience this firsthand. 😀
Excellent idea Jane, pop out of the tent at 4:30am. If you remained stuck inside, yell "I'm having an eclipse moment, I'm looking for my knife". I'm curious what the anchor would have said, Jane needs an emergency tent-ectomy. I was lucky enough to see the total in '17 at Bear Lake, Utah, northeast edge next to Wyoming. A friends parents home on the lake passed down to this generation. There were nine of us there including children and dogs. The kids whooped, the dog was confused, and two elderly men from next door came to the beach, one walking with a cane. When it ended I said, "those two guys walked perfectly as they came to see the eclipse, now look".
Great story! We were not that far apart back in 2017, my wife and I were just outside of Grass Valley, Oregon, about 65 miles north of Madras. We just pulled over at a wide spot with a few other vehicles. The view was unbelievable. Wonderful videos also.
This eclipse will be visible in Hawaii but since it’s only a partial and starting at 6:30 AM, I’m not going to drive to where I can get a clear view. If I get up in time, I may do the pinhole method just to see how much of the sun is covered. Keep up the good work! 👍🤙 Aloha !

You make everything JOLLY.. thank goodness.
Reporting can be good storytelling AND fun! :-)
What an experience for you Jane! I recall a partial eclipse here at the Monterey Bay in the early 80's,
