I was discussing polyamory and open marriages with my millenial daughter because she has some friends in an openly polyamarous marriage. She said they talk about it all the time and complain about the discrimination they face because of their lifestyle. Then, with an eye roll, she said, "Oh my god. Nobody cares."
I tolld her there was nothing new under the sun. My generation, and every generation before me had people who had certain "agreements" with their partners when it came to their sex lives. The difference between now and then was that previous generations kept it to themselves.
She told me that she would never say it publicly, but people in her generation get on her nerves sometimes because they seem to look for ways to draw attention to themselves so they feel special instead of just living their lives. That made me laugh.
Another lovely article on a wonderful topic - with a business angle. And you did not knock the lifestyle, without trying the lifestyle, Jane. Splendid!
I think you’re 80s hair is great! But I had the same style only longer, so I’m 80s biased.
Great article, as usual! Love your writing!
I have some friends who briefly considered swinging (about 25 years ago In Camarillo) after they got invited by an acquaintance couple. They decided it was too complicated.
I don't know if my name shows up but this is Jeff Abraham who Jane refers to in the article. The "lifestyle" is huge now and I think I have done 8-10 different swinger lifestyle podcasts now. I have done "front-porch swingers" 4 times alone. There are Dr's, lawyers, and many professionals in the lifestyle now. Leyna Nguyen the former KTLA news anchor hosts a swingers lifestyle podcast. Sone rent out entire hotels fir a weekend and travel the country hosting events. Like you Jane it's not my thing but it's here to stay and is no longer taboo.
I actually LOVE that you wrote about this. Monogamy isn't for everyone and I applaud couples (and throuples, polyamous folks, etc etc) who can make different relationship structures work for them.
What a story! And told in a style that's pure Jane Wells! I'm also not a swinger but I learned a lot from this. Keep up the good work, Jane. I just subscribed. PS. Love the hair!
At times, I was part of Jane’s adventures. In fact, I was the Cameraman that stuck his lens into that cooking pot of crack cocaine she mentions. Watching “Mom” smoke it was a hoot.
She doesn’t mention that we all worked for, in retrospect, what I think was one of the best places to work in local TV, “Montage” Ch4-CBS Miami. A crazy 1/2hr. Magazine show that aired in Miami as a lead in to 60minutes.
Really one of those jobs that was so much fun that we all knew it couldn’t last.
My only regret is I didn’t get to shoot the story with Jane all dolled up as a “Street Hooker”.
Bob, I sometimes think I did my best work for Montage. No limits. And with the best camera/sound crew in the business. You and Eddie somehow managed to be invisible. We were nuts.
Thank you for writing this article! I LOVE Dan and Lacy and have been following their podcast since last year. I've listened to every episode and genuinely appreciate what they are working to do for the lifestyle community. I did not know this community existed until about a year ago but I am all about people having sexual freedom. There should be nothing wrong with consensual sex between adults, and I really appreciate how much they talk about consent, rules, and boundaries in almost all of their episodes. They've partnered with some great non-profit organizations, like National Coalition for Sexual Freedom and Woodhull Freedom Foundation, and I have no doubt they will continue to be successful in their advocacy work. The fact that they've been able to find a way to pay their bills while doing something that they are so passionate about is literally the American dream. More power to them! Cheers!
Jane why am I not surprised you are writing on this, again. lol. But more to the point have they tried to take their podcast to youtube? Less interactive friendly but easier to monetize.
My neuroses want allow me to click the "like" symbol, because Substack's "like" symbol is a heart and that indicates love--and I don't want to be seen as a person who loves the idea of swinging, though I though the story ABOUT swinging was really informative and interesting. And now, I must go quietly meditate on the meaning of life, and read some Ralph Waldo Emerson.
so i guess there for a while "single Dan" was also a formal unicorn? did he also get a T=shirt?
making money from what one loves to do isn't easy. making fun in light hearted ways can be however. i know many potters (mostly women) actively making penis and vagina sculptures "as is" or on coffee mugs to sell. one just yesterday posted a pic of a cross to hang on a wall constructed via 4 male members. ....certainly haning but certainly not??? it seems to me if they wanted to dive into the novelty market they might get more cash for a while. b-days and retirement parties happen all the time!

Great yarn, Jane, but you look tired in that photo from your Miami days! Or maybe unenthusiastic! lol
I was going for the 20-something dreamy-eyed look. #MiamiVice

Pineapple upside down cake is not for everyone, and there’s gotta be an easier way to make a Buck?…altho the story was entertaining.😉😊

God bless you, DD!
Will message you about my latest book when the time is right. Hugs, DD and MS
Promescent. Swingers. Has Hubs learned not to ask what story you are working on today?
Haaaaaaaaa. Shhh.

Keep them coming.... the topics
Well it can stop a career when you don't get it on with your boss and her husband. My wife freaked out. Me too.
Boy, Jane. You get all the choice assignments!
It’s a gift.

Well, one can certainly love this comment.
