Nice going Jane. We're seeing too many govt insiders profiting from their position. With the President setting such a miserable example we shouldn't be surprised.

Keep on digging

You are amazing! Jane, you are the only person I know that reads Marginal Revolution… and the only one I know who is smart enough to dig in to information like this and make it palatable for the rest of us. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Now, a question: Do you suppose US Attorney General Pam Bondi got a copy of this study? Something smells rotten in Denmark!

i hate to say it, but trump isn't such a miserable example if/when he actually shows just how incredibly easy it is to do full-on corrupt actions and not get taken down by ANY of it!

Pardon's now have a fee of around $1 mill. bitcoin is legal money laundering and countries can use it for huge transactions. golfing is a sweet deal when you bring a few thousand along to also pay for their rooms at your hotels and food. Tariffs are quite the money maker if you can tweet "wait a minute" every 12 days and let your friends know ahead of time..... and if the tariff can be resolved by just dropping a mill or two into your favorite charity, who will say no?

sadly from here forward what will the NEXT few elections look like? it's "game on" for criminals! didn't the old BatMan TV series run a few episodes where the criminals ran Gotham City? and didn't good buddy elon delete IRS auditors anyway? Along with helping the older experienced ones quit or leave, the new auditors don't know the former slick tricks they used to do in the old Obama audit days

Jane, are you suggesting that someone in the employ of the US government is profiting from their position? No one would ever do that, no? :)

In this economic climate, I think we'd be remiss not to consider the distinct possibility, Jane. Terrific reporting!

Good job once again Jane, and hopefully your muck boots cleaned up well after this dig. For anyone paying attention on any political road, this information provides facts to their long run suspicions. I remember reading a brief in the Herald Tribune many years ago about a reporter's investigation into Pelosi's trades and indicating a series of stories would be coming soon. Well, I kept going to the Boulder library to read the paper and never found a follow up and to this day I've never been able to find the full story. Was the reporter shipped off to Alaska? There are a lot of rumors around MTG's "liberation day" trades and I'd wager that she wasn't the only member of Congress, on either side that made a bundle.

Jane,

Why don’t you see it DOGE is hiring part time retired Wall Street reporters? I love reading stories like these. I am sure there are plenty more to uncover. Keep up the good work!!

Good idea but DOGE is about to be DOGED. There was an article recently where people working for DOGE are fearing a downsizing. But there is always a job for good people

Jane,

Good sleuthing. What a creative backhanded way to get insider information to trade stocks based on advance knowledge on whether a company will get audited and/or owe taxes. Who knew?😅🤣😂 With that said. Should we be surprised about this when Congress has been doing this for years? I will have to ask my neighbor who works for the IRS to let me know going forward when he finds out major companies will be audited and/or owe taxes. Why not? The whole country is greedy and ripping everybody off. Inflation, and you know a lot of companies have raised prices in all the chaos even though they probably didn't have to. Everybody is in it for the money grab.

Of those mentioned bears being poked; any indication how many were likely to favor little hats the size and shape of a high probability Denny’s Slam plate option, and of those, also possess two passports? 🤔

When in doubt do the math and follow the money. The difference between garbage and compost is how it’s used! Great insightful reporting!! Btw the JAWS 50th is next weekend if you want updates. There is a full size ORCA on the way…

I've always suspected this- as with other "top" officials of government privy to the information. and we're not even talking about the manipulation of the market by tariff announcements. "Absoute power corrupts absolutely." Thank you again Jane, great work.

Wow, Wow, Wow!!! Insider trading at the IRS! Seems to me, that after reading this, alot of accountants may self select to work there, although with less likelihood, due to the cuts. Sort of joking. I'm not at all surprised though, and I can't imagine it being addressed, with all the other "fires" to put out.

i'm shocked? well, no. those close to the action *learn* things we do not. and scuttlebutt data on who's being audited and who isn't is meaningful. as is "dates of announcements". it's all insider trading.

You left a stone unturned though Jane. How many of those officials were in politically appointed positions?

They only knew that they were the equivalent of GS-15 and above, which is pretty senior.
